Oh no. I’m sad that you are sad. And yes it will grow out; but, in the meanwhile I feel bad that you are unhappy. Hopefully, your stylist can get you fixed up in the interim. I understand how important this can be to you. However, please always remember that the person you are and the person I know and love is not tied to your hair.
Thomas, I completely understand where you are coming from. One time, when the boys were younger, I had my hair cut way too short and highlighted so light that it looked nearly white!! The worst part is that this “new” hairstyle made me look SO much older than I actually was. For a few months, people thought I was my boys’ grandmother rather than their own mom. (I received the "grandma" comment 5 times in a single month!) There were days when I came home crying to my husband. (I didn’t look that old, did I?) Unfortunately, I had to simply wait it out. My hair is now back to its natural blond and I’ve let it grow long, which has really boosted my confidence. The other day I took my older son to the bank and the bank teller thought I was my son’s sister. A complete 180 from a few years before!
I’m sure you will find something that you love and suits you perfectly. Hang in there!
We’re grilling this weekend, too. Nothing really beats a good summer BBQ! Enjoy your weekend McKay family! 💕
I couldn't love this story more if I tried. thank you for sharing! it's so wild how much of a difference hair color can make on a person. I don't know when or if I will dye it again, but this experience taught me a lot!
Hi Thomas, don’t worry about your hair, change is temporary. hope you don’t mind but be should be me, “five episodes in, has be struggling to find the point of it.” Not sure if it’s too late to edit. Yum, PJ cooking cheese burgers, listening to the kiddos play sounds like bliss.
I’ve tried many styles and colors on my hair and, trust me, most of the times they didn’t work at all how I expected. And every time I laughed it out and wore them with pride until it grew back or I put another horrible color on top hahaha!
Hoping your second session gets you where you want it so you can enjoy it all summer long!
Well, the good part is that you liked how it looked before — that’s already a win. And the super-important part — especially as a guy — is that you still have hair to dye! (A little reminder of gratitude for any male!)
Finding the right color (as more gray sneaks in 👀 and the texture of the hair shaft starts doing its own thing) can actually turn into a weirdly fun science experiment… equal parts frustration and fascination. 🔬🎨
Also — let’s be honest — we usually obsess over our hair way more than anyone else notices. Most people just don’t look that closely.
Case in point: I remember telling my best friend years ago that I liked his goatee. He said, “Oh… thanks! I’ve had it for two years! And you’re just noticing it now?”
STOP IT RIGHT NOW that is hilarious. two years later, but better late than never! I am hoping I can keep viewing it as a science experiment and not as something that brings me sadness. I will live with it for a few days before making any drastic changes.
Back in the 1970’s, l decided to bleach my hair for summer and look like a surfer! Trouble was I had an Irish Red Beard! Tried bleaching beard and nearly choked from fumes but worse still the beard went PINK!!!
What a disaster but a big learning experience! Fortunately I could shave and regrow beard. Stupidity of my youth!

🤗 🤗 🤗...Sending big hugs....so sorry to hear of your disappointment - how annoying! I'm sure all is fixable, but, regardless, you're still wonderful in spite of your anguish.
Have a good weekend at the farm. Hugs home to all! 💜💙💚💛🧡❤️
I'm so sorry about your "follicular mishap". Yes, it will grow out or can be strategically styled...but it still sucks to be unhappy about your look. Breathe through it and try to remember that it'll be great material when you write your memoirs.
Here's something to chuckle about: while I don't have a "bad dye job" story, I do have one that is arguably worse. Right before yearbook photos of senior year, I decided to try something radical: I got a perm (don't judge...it was 1983). It was AWFUL!! And it's immortalized in the yearbook...UGH! Fortunately, I left for college, reinvented myself, and completely denied that the photo was me: "I have no idea who that is.: 😁
Nooooo! My husband hasn't even seen that travesty. I thought I wanted curly hair (mine is stick straight with several cowlicks) but it turned out as these weird waves out of a medieval novel. Just baaad! As soon as my hair grew in a bit, I got a crew cut and started from scratch. Never again.
Thomas, I have always loved the color of your hair and the wave it has in it. In any event, the dye job won't be permanent and can be changed , if you don't like it. Is anyone ever completely happy with their appearance? Probably not..Sue P
Oh yes, the big dilemma about what to do when you (or someone you’ve given consent 😂) mess up your beautiful hair…can’t count how many times I’ve experienced this one.
You have a few options: live with it, cut it off, or put color over it. If you decide you want to do the last; my suggestion is a very hydrating/moisturizing demi (demi, not semi) permanent hair color.
Best of luck! It’s probably not nearly as bad as you think. ☺️💙

aww thank you, Sue! and so true. I dont think I have ever been 100% happy with my appearance.

thank you for the input, Rebecca! I will show you a picture next week!
Looking forward to it!
Be honest Thomas. Were you trying something new or just hiding the grey. You know I'm just pulling you leg. Enjoy the weekend my friends. ❤️❤️
hahaha honestly just trying something new!! I do put a little color in it to hide the grey, but this was truly just trying something new. oh well!
