The Weekend Edit No. 23
5 fun things, including out of town guests, our son's birthday, and a beautiful apartment tour
Dear reader,
Happy Saturday morning! How was your week? If you missed it, we launched our new advice column, Ask Away, here on the newsletter last week, and the first issue went live on Tuesday! In it, a man asks for advice on what to do after coming out to his wife later in life and her saying she wants him to hide that part of himself away and for nothing to change. We loved reading the comments from other subscribers who offered helpful, insightful words of encouragement.
I’m thinking this new column will be beneficial, not just for readers, but for us, too, in helping us see the world from different point of views and perspectives. It’s an opportunity to learn and grow together, and I’m excited to see how future issues unfold.

We’re spending today celebrating our son’s 10th birthday out at our farm! We have our kids’ birthdays at the pavilion on our farm every year, but this is the first time we’ve ever let any of them invite a bunch of kids from their class, so it should be interesting to see how that goes! Allan is so excited and was very involved in the process of designing his invitations to send out. It should be a fun day filled with food and games and animals, and we’re about to head out there to set things up in the next hour or so.
If you’re in a reading mood today, you can keep scrolling for a few updates on the week and some fun recommendations for the weekend.

Here’s what else went on this week:
Allan, our oldest, turned 10 this week! We had a small celebration for him on Thursday, and then are having a big party at our farm this afternoon with friends and family. It’s so hard to believe he’s 10. They always say it goes so fast, and they’r not wrong. It’s been the joy of our life so far to watch him grow up, and I can’t wait to see how the next few years unfold as we enter (gulp) the teenage years!
We have out of town guests staying with us this weekend! Mo and Justin and their sweet son Brady came down from New Jersey and are crashing with us for a few days. We met them over a year ago at a Disney Creators celebration (where we spent a few days at Disney World and then another few days on a Disney Cruise) and have kept in touch ever since, planning to do something at some point in time. Well, now’s the time and it’s been so fun showing them around our little corner of the world. They’re such a lovely family and we can’t wait to all get together again.
I have been a fan of Graydon Carter for years (I’m currently reading his new memoir), devouring each issue of Airmail and fawning over his old 90’s apartment in The Dakota. So, you can imagine how excited I was when his new apartment popped up in Architectural Digest this week! It’s filled with “stuff” he’s collected over the years and is perfectly curated with items near and dear to him (he swears he’s not a hoarder). If you like maximalism interiors and a home that looks lived in, Graydon’s homes never disappoint. What a treat!
Last night, we went to Matt and Beau’s just down the road from our farm for a crawfish boil that Matt put on! It was the absolute most perfect night, especially weather-wise. We spent the evening eating deliciously spicy crawfish and visiting with friends while all the kids ran around the meadow. It felt like a dream, and I found myself wishing every weekend could start like this. Everyone there was a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, and all night I felt so grateful to have friends that feel more like family.
This week, we toured a house that we thought might be our next potential project/family house. It’s a grand estate on 6 acres that is absolutely brimming with possibilities. We were so excited about it, but after we toured the home, we realized it needed a lot more work than we’re willing to put into anything right now. Where would we find the time? Sad, because it has so much potential. On to the next!
Have a cozy weekend, friends.
Welcome Distractions
Something to Watch
The Last of Us on MAX. A hauntingly beautiful story about love and survival. If you missed it when it first aired, now’s the perfect time to catch up before Season 2 drops.
Something to Read
Romantic Comedy. Written by Curtis Sittenfeld, Romantic Comedy is a smart, funny, and tender novel that somehow makes the world of late-night sketch comedy feel like the perfect backdrop for a modern love story. Ideal weekend reading material.
Something to Listen to
Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware. A cozy, often hilarious podcast where guests talk food, family, and life over dinner. Start with the Stanley Tucci episode for max charm.
Spring Refresh
After a long winter, our home was craving a little color, a little softness, and a little joy. So we gathered up a few of our favorite pieces—think cheerful vases, cozy throws, floral prints, and tiny touches that make a space feel new again. Whether you’re swapping out pillows or just adding a single bloom to the kitchen table, here’s to fresh starts and pretty things. You can shop everything in our spring refresh here.
This Week’s Vlog
In this week’s vlog, we head to the beach to celebrate my 34th birthday! The highlight? PJ surprised me with a 10 minute video of our closest friends and family all taking turns wishing me a happy birthday! I cried like a baby seeing all of my favorite people pop up on the screen, each sending me love in their own unique, beautiful way. It was the sweetest thing ever. Ugh. My guy.
Hope you enjoy!
