The Weekend Edit No. 12
A reader survey, topics we're going to start exploring, and what to watch, read, and listen to this weekend
My loves,
Happy Saturday! How was your week? This has been one of those weeks where it was one thing after another piling on top of each other and there just weren’t enough hours in the day. It felt like we were playing catch up to deadlines that hadn’t even come yet.
And while we’re at the farm this weekend to stay at Holiday House for a little getaway, I don’t think there will be much down time/relaxation happening. We’re in the process of putting together and editing all the content we shot in Kentucky last weekend, along with a few other things, so it’s going to be a busy weekend ahead!
In other news, we created a short little reader survey that will help us better understand our audience here on Okay McKay, and if you could spare a minute of your time to fill it out, we will be forever grateful to you!
Also, Tuesday’s Q&A issue (below) felt like a breath of fresh air for us. Every time we do a Q&A, we share a little more about ourselves and our marriage and, in the process, it causes us to think about things and questions that might normally not occur to us. We shared a lot in Tuesday’s letter, like what our favorite lube to use is, some tips for a new bottom, and how we handle intimacy while traveling as a family.
Going forward, we’re going to start exploring spicier, more intimate (dare I say, taboo?) topics here on Okay McKay, and I hope you’ll join in for the conversation.
There were so many questions we didn’t have time to get to, so we’ll be answering the rest in a follow up post!
Speaking of joining the conversation, our paid-subscriber chat is so much fun right now! We’re chatting about everything and nothing and it feels like a close little community is forming. You should totally join if you haven’t already.
Lastly, we have a new vlog premiering Sunday morning over on YouTube, and we will be going live on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram Sunday evening at 8p ET. We’ll be drinking a Josh cabernet if you would like to join us and chat! xox

Watch: Grotesquerie
We haven’t been this excited to watch a show every night in a long time. Ryan Murphy’s newest hit is addicting, thrilling, and, well, pretty grotesque. Niecy Nash-Betts is a powerhouse as an alcoholic detective trying to solve a stream of gruesome, religious-inspired murders in her small town while also dealing with personal family drama. There are so many twists and turns to keep you guessing, and did I mention it also stars Nicholas Alexander Chavez (who plays one of the Menendez brothers) as a hot priest who bares it all in a few scenes? A must watch!!!!
You can watch Grotesquerie on Hulu and FX.
Read: Can The Media Survive?
A huge deep dive by NY Magazine featuring exclusive insights from some of the media’s most powerful and influential voices, sharing what they think is wrong is the current state of the media and journalism at large, where they see it going, and what the future of the media will be. I found this article to be so fascinating, and it’s a lot to read through, but it’s very enlightening. It’s also kind of sad to see how things have shifted in the current landscape in regards to legacy media (which some see as a good thing). Anyway, it’s a good one!
You can read Can The Media Survive? on NYMag.
Listen: Disease
Lady Gaga’s long-awaited single from her also long-awaited seventh studio album dropped yesterday and it’s so good?! She’s once again telling her lover she’ll be the cure to whatever is going wrong in their lives, but this time it’s much darker. It reminds me a lot of what was on The Fame Monster; classic GaGa, if you will. A return to form that will be so much fun to listen to in the gym.
You can listen to Disease wherever you get your music.

Says Christine: Being a lifelong Texan, I had always voted republican just as my parents did. This will be the third election in a row that I will cast my vote for a democrat. I think as my kids grew up and issues have become more relevant and important to me, I have become more aware (I’m ashamed to say) of how much a conservative policies hurt women, LGBTQ+ and other minority groups. For instance, my daughter and her husband cannot get pregnant. If she does IVF here in Texas and has complications, she would have to leave the state to receive life saving measures. My ex husband is gay. My niece is trans. I have 2 other nieces that are bi and one that is wanting to transition. What happens to them matters to me. What happens to you and families like yours matters to me. So my vote will go to Kamala Harris.
Says Colleen: I am proudly voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz this election! I have always voted democratic, but in my mind, this is a particularly important election for several reasons. (Hopefully, this is a safe place to vent.)
When Trump was voted president in 2016, the first thing my husband said to me was “I am so glad that our boys look more like you than they do me.” He was referring to his ethnicity and skin color. My husband (half east Indian, half Filipino) has the most beautiful chocolate-colored skin, whereas our children’s skin tone is much fairer, like me (a blond hair, blue-eyed Scandinavian). His comment broke my heart and left me in tears.
I am also fearful for my LGBTQ friends losing their rights to build a family, especially those married (or planning to get married) and those with children. When Trump was last elected, a couple of our lesbian friends were so worried about losing their marriage rights, the non-birth mom rushed to officially adopt their children to ensure there would be no question that she was also their children's parent. I have several trans friends/family members and am fearful for their rights as well.
I am also fearful that a Trump administration will be taking us back in time by several decades…again. I work as an environmental consultant, and during his last presidency we would receive Executive Order, after Executive Order, almost EVERY WEEK, changing our country’s environmental rules and regulations, nearly taking us back to a time when environmental rules were practically nonexistent. Each E.O. was written to benefit the profits of big businesses and didn’t seem to care at all about clean air, clean water, and the future of our children. (Fortunately, when Biden became president, he negated many of these E.O.’s with his own Executive Orders.)
Have a wonderful weekend, friends! xoxo
Not sure my survey is helpful since I love all your content and can’t decide what’s my favorite 😂. Can’t wait to see some beautiful fall scenery and what fun your family had while in Kentucky! 💙
Love the Out.com article. They have amazing articles and content. This was a really good article and I completely agree with the writer’s opinion. Personally I love when men and women post thirst traps. Yes please trap me!! 😂🔥 But I can totally tell when it’s being used as a marketing tactic and I despise that strategy. I also love seeing men explore themselves and paint their nails or wear clothes that make them feel good. I love seeing women embrace their masculine side too. Self expression is so important in life. No one should be forced into being someone they aren’t to fit society’s standards.
I look forward to your articles each week. I love it all. So excited for everything to come!! Sending all the love ❤️
