People tend to nosh or nibble more than eat-eat at adult-only evening parties—especially the over-20, the over-30, or the over-over crowd: a little nibble, a little sip-sip, a little nibble, and then a little more sip-sip.
"a little nibble, a little sip sip, a little nibble, and then a little more sip sip" is going to be my new motto for 2025, I love it!!! you're so right, Daniel. I will remember this advice for next year!!
I have never thrown a Christmas party (or really much of any kind of party beyond having maybe a couple of couples over, and that was years ago), and I haven’t gone to any Christmas parties, partly because I haven’t been invited to any, and partly because I’m just not really a party person, and when I go to a party, within 10 minutes I’m already starting to think about when I can politely leave. I will take a small get-together with maybe a half dozen people over a party with lots of people any day. That being said, I am going to a New Year’s Eve party, and there will be karaoke, and I will probably sit and listen to other people sing and never get in front of the microphone. That’s just how I roll, karaoke-wise.
We always have paper hand towels in our guest restroom, all year round. We switch based on season or holiday. We also have a decorative hand towel hanging but it rarely gets used.
LOVE this! What a fun party! The sweaters and the food look amazing! And who would ever think about bringing wigs to a holiday party? (They looked great by the way!)
We follow many of the same recommendations when hosting parties at our house; however, for this time of year we typically hold the parties AFTER Christmas (I'm too buried with work deadlines and Christmas shopping to think about hosting a party before the holidays). Our favorite game to play is Telestrations, which the kids love. (There is also Telestrations After Dark for an adults-only party.) Looks like everyone had an incredible time at your party. Enjoy building more memories!
In answer to your question, we actually use single use guest towels when we host a party. I never thought about using them before until my mom gave me some as a gift one year. Although it may seem wasteful, I'm with PJ in that it is much more sanitary with the single use towels (by the end of the night, a single cloth hand towel is typically really wet and gross, and I'm usually too busy to think about replacing it).
I hope that everyone enjoys spending time with loved ones this holiday season! Sending love to all!! 💕
P.S. Question for the McKays: Do your kids still believe in Santa Claus??
thank you for the rec with the game! just googled it and it looks so fun! adding it to the list. and yeah, I can totally see that re: the towel. my mom prefers the single use ones, too. and to answer your question, of course we do :) happy holidays dear friend!!!!
Santa got the boys the game Chameleon for Christmas this year. (Looking forward to playing it over winter break!) According to Amazon, if you enjoy playing Chameleon, you should also enjoy playing Telestrations. (BTW, please check your email!) Merry Christmas, McKay family! ❤️🎄
Great pix of another beautiful McKay gathering. I loved the vlog, too! My husband and I were in NYC for the weekend. We were able to reconnect with family and friends with a series of luncheons and dinners throughout the four days. We managed to drive the "City Christmas Tour" (5th and 6th Avenues) while en route home Saturday night. It was great to spend the pre-holiday time with family, former teaching colleagues and the "Ole Fire Island" gang's reminiscing - always filled with lots of fond memories and many laughs!
Again, enjoy the Season 2024 and a Prosperous 2025! Hugs to all from NY.❤️🎉🏳️🌈🤗
omg Jim I AM SO JEALOUS!! if you have pics, I need to see them (via email?). we haven't been to NYC at Christmastime since 2010 and I am dying to go back. I'm so glad y'all got to do that!! happy holidays, love xoxo
Looks and sounds like a wonderful evening. Thanks for sharing all the pictures. Best hopes and wishes that all the McKays, their families, and friends have a blessed Christmas. Hugs❤️🤗
The party looked like a lot of fun and a great success!!! I would go with a hand towel, but I have always prefer towels to paper napkins/towels. Have a great Christmas and happy holidays all!!!
As far as the hand towels, I keep a roll of paper towels in the guest bathrooms instead of cloth. I just think it's more sanitary to have paper towels instead of cloth, especially in the winter, with colds and flu season.
Your parties look like so much fun. Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 ❤️

Daniel, I don't know you, but I love you already 😄😍

If it were available, probably something from a musical written in a lower register.
aww Lane I would LOVE to see you do karaoke!! if you ever did it, what song would you sing?

That’s just what my mom does!

Better to have too much food than too little, I always say (I am Italian 😬). What lovely friends you have. Merry Christmas. 🎄
And — be warned —a little sip-sip, followed by a little more sip-sips, will definitely lead to extensively more nibble-nibbles upstairs later on.
😂😂
I completely agree, Kate! there are always other mouths that can eat leftovers!
