What Our Fetishes Are and 20 Other Questions on Life, Sex, and Love
Including what we think about body hair, whether or not we get Botox, and a tattoo tour
It’s been a while since we did a true Q&A where we sat down and answered a bunch of fun, interesting, and revealing questions from you, so why don’t we do one today?
The last one we did was a spicy video Q&A back in December where we answered everything on camera, and it was really fun and refreshing to make. You asked so many good questions that we felt, by answering them, would help normalize the conversation around sex in long-term relationships, and we did not hold back. You can see that post below.
Today’s Q&A is a nice mix of questions from every part of life, ranging from what our wedding rings are made from (and why we chose them) to why PJ shaves his chest hair (someone asked!). It’s a long one, too long for email, so if you’re reading this in your email make sure to click through to open it up on the Substack app or in your browser.
Okay! Here we go!
Advice on coming out to a super religious family?
We haven’t been through this scenario, but we do know coming out to super religious anyone can be really tough, so give yourself grace and patience as you navigate this. Start by finding the right time and place for an honest and calm conversation, and focus on your story, how being open about who you are feels like the most authentic path forward. Their initial reaction might not be what you hope for, but you never know, they might surprise you, and even if it takes time, they may come around in the future. No matter what, there is a whole world of people out there who will love and accept you for exactly who you are. Coming out is so scary, but so worth it.
Where does your interior design inspiration come from?
We love apps like Instagram and Pinterest for design inspiration, and use them religiously to save and keep track of images or videos that inspire us. There’s such an endless supply of inspo out there that it’s easy to get overwhelmed, but by far the biggest design inspiration for us comes from…movies! And TV shows! We’ve been known to just watch things for the set design. I always say, it’s the production designer’s job to create real, believable worlds inside the movie/show so that the audience believes what they’re watching, so the sets are often places we would like to live in, too. Nancy Meyers and her movies are an obvious inspiration, but I also love the sets from Knives Out (dream home) and of course, my all-time favorite, The Family Stone, which the house we almost bought last fall reminded me of (and I still dream about it).
