We became fathers six years ago.
Well, unofficially. We started fostering our children in the summer of 2019, and after two years of court visits, home checks, and paperwork, we officially became their fathers and adopted them in at the end of the summer of 2021. We’ve always said, even though we legally adopted our kids in 2021, when they were three, four, and six, we felt like a family long before then.
Parenthood is exactly what we thought it would be and somehow nothing like we thought it would be. It’s taught us more about who we are as a couple and individuals than probably anything else. It’s changed us, for the better, and reminded us of who we are and who we’ve always been. It’s single-handedly the best choice we’ve ever made, and we can’t imagine our lives without our children and our family and all that comes with that.
Getting to be called Dad and Daddy by these three incredible, beautiful, wonderful children is the honor of our lives, and it’s true what they say: the days are long but the years are short. And these are the years, friends. These are the years.
Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers, soon-to-be-fathers, and father-figures out there. xoxo
