Watch: 3 Body Problem
Had you ever heard of this book that was a worldwide phenomenon before it was a miniseries? I hadn’t, and I can’t believe how much I’ve been missing out. This series is ambitious, absorbing, and above all, so much fun to watch.
Going back and forth between present day and 60 years in the past, scientists in the current are starting to kill themselves one by one, along with receiving and playing a video game headset that is decades ahead of any kind of tech we have here on earth. Could this all be occurring because of what happened 60 years ago? Here is the official Wikipedia synopsis:
“Ye Wenjie is an astrophysicist who sees her father beaten to death during a struggle session in the Chinese Cultural Revolution. She is conscripted by the military because of her scientific background and is sent to a secret radar base in a remote region. Her fateful decision at the base echoes across space and time to a group of scientists in the present day, forcing them to face humanity's greatest threat.”
I highly recommend putting this at the top of your must-watch list. It’s the kind of show where you want to pop a big bowl of popcorn, pour a glass of wine, and just relax on the couch for hours.
You can watch 3 Body Problem on Netflix.
Read: The State of the Culture, 2024
I read this essay by
from his brilliant newsletter with my mouth open the entire time. If you read anything this year, I truly believe this would be the most important piece of information you could read.He discusses how culture, and the arts and entertainment industry, are all in shambles and are being replaced, in real time, by distraction. Apps like TikTok and Instagram and Facebook are taking old culture forms and dumbing them down for dopamine addicts (aka, all of us).
Just take a look at this graph he created:
It’s a very real and honest examination of what every single one of us does on a daily basis without even realizing it. In a world of endless scrolling, is there anything that can quench our thirst for more?

Listen: Everything I Thought It Was
I am no Justin Timberlake fan, and I have only ever listened to his singles, never an entire album, but I decided to give this one a chance and press play on Everything I Thought It Was and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. (Side note: I keep wanting to call this album Everything I Thought I Was and I don’t know why!)
Justin Timberlake as a person kind of gets on my nerves, and there are parts of this album that do, too, but as a whole it’s a very enjoyable listen, especially when you’re in the gym working out. The best tracks are “Fuckin’ Up the Disco”, “Drown” “Infinity Sex” and “My Favorite Drug”.
You can listen to Everything I Thought It Was wherever you get your music.
I started getting gray hairs in my early 20’s.
At the time, I think I thought they were cool; they were a sign that I was getting older, and in your late teens/early 20’s, all you really want is to be seen as older than you actually are. I would notice them, maybe even pluck one out, and then move on about my day.
However, these days that isn’t really an option. At 33 years old, I have more gray hair than I ever have before. And you know what? I don’t think I like it very much.
I know you can’t really tell from the photo above, so I took these for you instead, and you can really see all the gray coming through on the sides of my head (and in the process, you can see every single wrinkle and blemish and imperfection my face has to offer):
