Hi both, your newsletter is a treat for me, Saturday morning read in bed, lovely.
I have to say the last 36 hours have been incredibly busy, with some things totally unexpected - so today taking things a little easier and loving the fresh air, a break from temperatures in the mid 30s!
I love that kitchen too, a real vintage vibe, I especially love the lighting and the windows and the old butler style sink, gorgeous!
Quiet day for me, then another busy but lovely day tomorrow! Sending you both love and hugs as always xx
I hope you're able to relax today and take some time for yourself. I know Europe is heating up quickly right now, isn't that right? everything I'm seeing is saying it's EXTREMELY hot? I hope you're able to stay cool!!! xo
As always, I love reading each week’s summary and so enjoy the included pictures (PJ’s pasta looks amazing, btw!). I was able to finish "I Will Find You" a few days ago and loved it. I’m guessing you’ll be finishing it this week. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it again and get your opinions once you have completed it. 😉😊
This week has been on and off for me. Unfortunately, it was more difficult than usual to shake off the deluge of news nonsense out of DC. The Supreme Court’s unveiling of some of this year’s decisions has added all the more ‘joy’ 🤦🏼♂️ to this administration’s cruel efforts. I worry for our nation.
In spite of it all, though, there’s always something uplifting to come along to help me bounce back. Getting involved with planting and updating the garden has helped. But, to be quite honest, looking forward to your Substack and YouTube postings helps a great deal, too. 👍 Reading and watching all the week’s topics and details as they unfold, and enjoying the comments section, makes for warm feelings about being part of this special group. Your efforts do not go unappreciated! 👏
Have a great weekend at the farm. Be sure to enjoy those 'fart walks' together 👨❤️👨 and, of course, be happy, well, and safe. Hugs to all from NY…. 🤗💞🌈🦄🗽
I worry for our nation, too. I have all but stopped watching the news, but I get updates on social media every day, and I follow Heather from Letters from an American here on Substack, and she updates us every night with what's going on. it's all so scary.
I am so happy that our newsletter brings you joy!! and that gardening does, too! sending you all the love, Jim!!!!
I completely feel this my friend! And I thank you for the recs! This week completely blew me away and I’m tearing up as I write this! For starters my son graduated HS Tues nite, & my daughter & her boyfriend drove up from TN & so did my in laws. So yeah my home was never cleaned! I cleaned it today and now all I want is an Espresso Martini or Cosmo!! All of my kids were in and out of the door bc of parties &my sons parties for graduation were out of this world! & I can’t stop tearing up bc my mil gave my son the other half of the money owed to him from working with his gpa last summer so he could get a MacBook for NYU!😭Last night we went to my husband’s Aunt and Uncle’s house for a Grad party/see the house where my Aunt and Uncle live/Goodbye party before everyone left this morning and my son got a lot of dorm necessities & a really cool backpack!!! I wish I could send photos on here to show you guys their home! It’s phenomenal!!!🤯😳😍
awww!! I bet you are feeling ALL the feelings!! congratulations to your son!!
and omg your MIL!! that is the absolute sweetest gift ever!! the party sounds amazing. I would love to see everything! you can always send a photo in DMs!!!! hugs to you Jenna!
Love reading your newsletter. It makes my weekend. One line hit me hard and deeply resonated with me becasue is it so true. "Life isn’t a checklist to check off and it isn’t meant to be conquered. It’s meant to be lived." As I am now 64 those words are so true and I am glad you discovered them at such a young age. Blessings to you, PJ, and the family.
thank you!!!! still taking it day by day with that one. it's a constant struggle and something I always have to remind myself. slow down. it's not a race. doing what I can!!! hugs to you xoxo
Surprised you guys never made homemade pasta before! It's so easy! Get yourselves a hand cranked pasta machine and it's even easier. No rolling pins. It even has cutters to cut the noodles for linguuine and angel hair pasta (that's mine, which is several years old). Get the kids involved, kids love machines, and they could make a game out of it. BTW Avoid motorized machines-they are very expensive and a bitch to clean. Hope this will add to your pasta adventures ;-)
It might. But I will share a quote from a cookbook I have. The author, Marcella Hazan, is a famous (I guess) Italian cook. It's called "Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking"; and I learned how to make homemade pasta from this cookbook. Hazan says, "Do not be tempted by one of those awful devices that masticate eggs and flour at one end, and extrude a choice of pasta shapes at another end. What emerges is a mucilaginous and totally contemptable product, and moreover, the contraption is an infuriating nuisance to clean." But you have do do what works for you. If you like what your machine makes, even better. I like my little hand cranked one. You don't really need to clean it, and I find kneading the pasta dough by hand a good way to work out any aggression! ;-) Good luck!

So I use a hand cranked one that is pretty inexpensive, and you dont really have to clean it. Kneading the dough by hand, you can get rid of all your aggression. ;-) But see how yours works, if you like the end result, that's all that matters!

thanks for all the tips!! I think we're going to order the kitchen aid attachment for our stand mixer! do you think that'll do the trick?
