Well this was a fun surprise to see this morning. Being quoted in the reader comments section might be the closest thing I’ve had to a Substack “cameo.”
I’d like to thank the academy, PJ & Thomas, my superstar husband (who, after listening to my completely unscientific theory about the many roles we expect our partners to fill, actually attempted therapist, financial planner, and porn star all in one afternoon. I admire the dedication to the experiment… but still recommended a nap), and whatever questionable life choices led me to type that sentence on the internet in the first place. 🙌
Honestly this update had range: beach shack serenity, interior design inspiration, fashion bravery, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, and an unexpected philosophical essay about why movies don’t feel real anymore. That’s a lot to process before coffee has fully kicked in.
The blue bedroom already looks fantastic and now I’m oddly invested in the full reveal like it’s a season finale. Also Thomas… I feel compelled to acknowledge the pants. That look somehow reads “effortlessly coastal” on you. If I attempted it, I’m fairly certain I’d look like a man who accidentally left the house wearing his father’s pajamas and decided to commit to the bit.
Also appreciated the beach shack reflection. There’s something about salt air and sand that temporarily turns children into reasonable human beings. As someone currently coming out the other side of raising three of them, I can confirm that any environment that produces peaceful coexistence is basically a miracle.
Anyway, thrilled to have briefly peaked as a quoted reader. Hopefully it’s not all downhill from here… but if it is, I’ll always have my one glorious moment in the Okay McKay comment hall of fame.
Now excuse me while I spend the rest of the weekend trying to think of something clever enough to earn a sequel appearance. 😅
Forgot to say that I've greatly enjoyed "Okay McKay" for a long time and always feel better about life and everything after reading. It's just so enjoyable and makes me often feel part of the "action" (having never actually met PJ and Thomas, I now feel, each time I read their news, that I'm part of the action (maybe actually a friend!). Love it for sure!!
Thanks, John! I’m still very much the Substack toddler over here… wobbling around, bumping into things, and constantly asking “why, why?” while everyone else seems to know what they’re doing. 🤓
But I completely agree with you about PJ & Thomas. Their Substack (and YouTube) somehow makes it feel like you’re part of the conversation, which is impressive considering most of us are scattered all over the place. For someone like me living in a small town raising three kids with my husband, it’s oddly relatable and a fun little corner of the internet to explore.
So yes… I’m enjoying my brief Substack cameo moment while it lasts. 😄
Omg. Talking to the wooden spoons!!! Daniel! I’m utterly charmed. I sometimes put googly eyes on stuff to 1. See how long it takes my husband to notice and 2. Bc my kids tickle the light switch’s nose to turn on the lights (pretend sneezing is gold). But I might need to have a chat with my spatula about her egg flipping.
Beach life looks good in blue, and it sounds like it feels good for everyone. Enjoy the last little squeeze of slow sweetness. xxx
Love the goggly eyes! So cute, my eldest did that with her son's , she also made emotion wooden spoons, which helped to say how they felt when they were too young to speak it out. Xx
Hi both, I have to say that I love the bedroom colours, it looks cozy and coastal at the same time. What I especially love are the photos of you all by the sea- I love the sea , I've been to a couple of coasts in the US and enjoy the wide expanse and sight lines. I can only compare it to Northumberland, where the beaches are wide and seem to go on forever- the water's a bit colder though!
So as you know from Kathleen we had a little adventure this week! It was wonderful to meet a new friend and learn about each other and talk about how much we appreciate you both. Still chatting, sending you both lots of love and hugs, Julie xx
The “shack” and your times there are quite special for you all. It does one’s heart good to read and see how happy you all seem whenever you're at the beach.😊 The bedroom looks so relaxing and cozy; I’ve always been partial to a two-tone look, and I think it’s the perfect color combination for a seaside retreat. Good on PJ! 👍👏
While I’ve not yet read _Once Upon a Time_, I took your recommendation to stream “Love Story.” Each week, I look forward to the latest episode and am enjoyably progressing through it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it. 💞 I’m wondering if you saw the accompanying documentary of their story? I enjoyed watching that at the same time, as well.)
Wishing you a good rest of the weekend. Stay well, safe, and happy…..🤗♥️🌈
So happy you guys get to enjoy our beaches, especially in that beautiful area of Florida.
Something we’ll definitely miss when we move to NC in the next couple years, but also look forward to seeing when we come back to visit!
Having a little beach shack vacation spot might be the answer. 💙
NC has some pretty beaches, too!
Good to know. We’ve only been to the mountains up there so I’ll look forward to finding some good ones!

So happy you've been elevated to the Substack "cameo" award level. I'm sure it's quite an honor!! I loved your comments.
