A Few Fun Things
Including another dream home tour, an Okay McKay meet up, and a discount code!
Hi friend.
Happy Friday, and happy first day of spring! How was your week?
We’re home from spring break at the beach, and I absolutely love getting back to the reality of every day life. Back to the routines of school drop off, losing myself in work, figuring out what to make for dinner, listening to music while we do it. The weather has been all over the place this week, with heavy snow on Monday and 80 degree sunshine today, so that’s been an adjustment. But overall, I’m feeling very grateful to be home and back in our happy place.
I wanted to thank you all for the feedback on Tuesday’s letter (below). Your encouragement meant a lot. I find myself second-guessing a lot of my decisions these days when it comes to the kind of content we should be putting out, and I think I’ll get out all of my thoughts and frustrations with words in an upcoming issue of the newsletter.
In other news, here is this week’s YouTube video, where we have my sister and her wife over for dinner, go to our son’s 6th grade night, and PJ does a big landscape overhaul!
TUESDAY’S LETTER
Okay! Here are a few fun things from the week!
House Tour
I know, I know. Another week, another post on Okay McKay about us touring some house. But this house is different you guys! It’s special in a very specific way. Big rooms. Soaring ceilings. Three stories (!). We both fell in love with it as soon as we entered it, and it checks all of the boxes we’re looking for in a next house, if we were to ever move. I want to show you more, but I’m keeping this one close to my chest because it’s not on the market yet. TBD!
An Okay McKay Meetup!
This made my entire week! Two dear readers of Okay McKay, Julie (left) and Kathleen, met up while Kathleen and her family were visiting the U.K.! How amazing is that? They went to this little cafe called Thyme & Lovage in Burford, which Kathleen describes as a “magical place.” It’s times like these that I wish we lived in a bigger city so that regular newsletter meetups could become more frequent! What do you think? Would you ever be interested in a big Okay McKay meetup one day?!
A huge thank you to Kathleen for sending!!!!
The Cast is Off
The end of an era! After two months of being in a cast for breaking his arm (on his sister’s 8th birthday, no less), our middle son is finally free of it! We went to his doctor appointment this week for a checkup and x-rays, thinking that’s all it was going to be. We had no idea his cast was ready to come off, so it was the biggest, and nicest, surprise for all of us when the doc said he was in the clear. He’s wearing a little brace for the next few weeks, but he’s able to take it off at home. This was very, very hard on him psychologically (the camo cast was cool for about a week, and then it became smelly and annoying for him to navigate), so PJ and I are both incredibly grateful he’s finished with it. To celebrate, we took him out for lunch, just the three of us. It was a good day.
The Blue Beach Bedroom Reveal
Our full reveal of our little bedroom at our beach shack is live! You can see the whole makeover right here. It was so much fun to get out of our comfort zone of white paint and try something new. I’m glad PJ stuck to his guns and brought his vision to life because we love the end result. Here are the sources:

Nightstands (similar)
Curtains (in bright white)
A Retro No-Screen Digital Camera
Have you seen these Camp Snap cameras? In this day and age, they truly feel like a deep breath of fresh air in a noisy digital world, and they’re so cute and retro looking. It’s a digital camera, but there’s no screen, so you can’t check or obsess over the photo you just took, which lets you stay in the moment and then be surprised later when you plug it in to see what you captured. It’s simple, nostalgic, and oddly freeing; like disposable cameras but without the wait or waste.
They also have these digital video cameras that have been all over our feed lately that make your videos look like old VHS films. SO cool.
But the best part is, we asked Camp Snap for a discount code for you and they came through! Use our code PJANDTHOMAS7 for 7% off your purchase!
Julie, on These Are The Good Ole’ Days, says: “Having my 2 grown up girls, I sometimes yearn for the 3yr old or the 10yr old , and sometimes the teenagers. It’s weird because you start with your small child, they disappear and a new child comes along, it’s taken me a long time to realise that. But my beautiful girls of 32 and 29 are my world and the closest to my heart. Except 2 little grandsons who hold the keys! It’s a wonderful circle to go through, your baby having a baby! My mom, who died 3 yrs ago got to be a great grandmother and she adored it, how wonderful would it be to see that!”
JimNY, on These Are The Good Ole’ Days, says: “I, too, remember as if it weren’t decades ago my times on Fire Island’s beaches and in the NYC clubs. I know I’m sometimes a bit too sentimental, but those moments flash into the mind’s view when least expected. Touching base with longtime friends and sharing memories is also a special way to recall all the fun we had together. Of course, I realize that current experiences continue to add to those 'good old days' memories. I am grateful they continue as time goes on.”
What about you? What have you been up to recently? xoxo
PS: last week’s fun things

a meetup would be fantastic! I cant believe that yall are going to have a middle schooler now! the time has flown. If you are going to get him a phone, don’t get him one with a bunch of internet access. (this is coming from a ‘99 baby whose first phone was a slide phone). Before you know it, the kiddos will be driving😱! The 3rd day of 6th grade, I broke my collar bone and was in a sling for the rest of the trimester; it wasn’t fun. On a brighter note, today is my grandmas 92nd birthday, which I got to celebrate with her.(Im the favorite grandchild, not that shes playing favorites haha).
Hi both, I'm so glad that Riah's cast has come off, it must be so much more comfortable. I remember I broke my leg when I was 10, I was in a full cast for 8 weeks, it was well before the boots we have now, I remember it being so itchy! My mum's knitting needles came in handy!! Terrible I know!
This week I went to the cinema with a friend to see Project Hail Mary, I have to say I loved it - I love sci-fi and it met my expectations of a very interesting plot. I would recommend it.
So loved meeting up with Kathleen for our long and lovely lunch, so wonderful to meet a new friend! So yes to a meet up, it would be great fun, all love and hugs, Julie xx
